BlogFest 12: We’re only three years old

In November of 2004, several local bloggers — who read each others’ sites but didn’t know each other in real life — decided to get together in person. It was the first Pittsburgh BlogFest, and it was a very, very good time.

Based on the goodness of that time and our desire to keep it going, we built a website to make it a little easier to find and keep track of blogs in this area. We held sporadic events to help people get started with or do better with blogging, and we worked with local podcasters and other new media sorts to continue to create and sustain a community.

Have we reached the limit yet? Hardly — the good stuff continues! This Thursday will be Pittsburgh BlogFest 12, and it promises to be the best yet.

WHAT: Pittsburgh Blogfest 12
WHEN: Thursday, November 8, 2007, 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM and beyond
WHERE: Finnegan’s Wake (near PNC Park, 20 General Robinson St., North Shore, 412-325-2601), in the Pub Room
WHO: All local bloggers, vloggers, podcasters (and their friends!) and Pittsburgh Bloggers

Being as this is a birthday party of sorts, there will be cake. As always, there will be food and drink for purchase from the nice folks st Finnegan’s Wake, and many laughs plus serious talk and all kinds of pleasant experience. What’s more, Andrew Stockey of WTAE — who is a blogger as well as a local television anchor — will be on hand to do a story on blogging in Pittsburgh.

(SPECIAL NOTE FOR THE MEDIA-SHY: We expect TV cameras to be on hand sometime between 7 and 8. They’ve assured us that they’ll respect all requests from those who ask to stay off the telly. If you’re really, really media-shy, you may want to come before 7 or after 8. But please come! We want to hang out with you.)

As always, if you plan to attend, please send an e-mail to blogfest at-sign closkey dot com. See you there!

  1. lookin’ forward to it…er…rather, trying to convince my wife (themacmuse.blogspot.com) that she oughta go. Yeah, when I start podcasting daily 3 weeks ago, 3 things happened: life got instantly fuller, my sense of schedule became more acute (a good thing, an intended thing), and complaints at home about my change in “focus” increased, which just told me that perseverance was the essential quality which would help me win on all fronts in the end. ;-)
